Our Mission

NAADAM goes straight to the source of the world’s best cashmere, Mongolia’s Gobi Desert, and works directly with herders to bring you high-quality, sustainable and unbelievably soft knitwear at prices that are fair for them — and for you.

Our Story

NAADAM was founded in 2013 by Matthew Scanlan and Diederik Rijsemus. The college friends traveled to remote parts of the Mongolian Gobi Desert, became friends with the local herders and saw first-hand how traditional cashmere traders and brokers drive up prices and take the profits. By cutting out these middlemen, Matt and Diederik realized they could pay their herder friends more while selling premium-quality clothes for less.

Our Mission

Sustainable and ethical business practices have been a part of NAADAM since day 1. Check out our first annual Social and Environmental Impact Report here.

We Pay It Forward

By working directly with our herders, we are able to pay them substantially more and you pay less for the world's best cashmere.

We Are Hands-On

From hand combing to providing veterinary care, we promote ethical conditions for the animals behind our raw materials.

We Make Cashmere With A Conscience

We give back through nonprofit work with the Gobi Revival Fund and have set up a clean water source, a livestock insurance program and a park for the local community to gather, play and for other forms of commerce to thrive.

We're In It For The Long Haul

100% of our materials come from renewable or recycled sources. We use finer, longer cashmere fibers that create high quality products. They're made to last.

We Graze the Bar

Sometimes, goats bite off more than they can chew (don’t we all). Overgrazing is an environmental problem, so we’ve fenced off an area the size of Manhattan to prevent grasslands desertification. Over 10,000 goats get the food they need.

We Take It Personally

We know our partners. We only work with suppliers who meet our Code of Conduct standards, have documented labor and environmental certifications and pay workers fairly.

We Pack Light

We've shifted to more sustainable packaging solutions from 100% pre-consumer Forest Stewardship Council-certified recycled paper for inserts and hangtags to 100% recycled plastic with non-toxic chemicals that biodegrade faster for our mailers and bags.

Soft

In our eyes, the softer the better! This quality has a luscious, luxurious hand feel. It's an elevated and rich quality that is both durable and soft. You will always be and feel more comfortable while wearing this clothing. These products soften over time with every single wear.

100% Felted Wool
100% Felted Wool
Felted wool comes from sheep hair that gets spun into thread and then woven into wool fabric. We felt the wool by bathing it in our signature mixture and putting it through our high heat dry process. This produces a compact fabric that has a fluffy texture.

Very Soft

Softer than almost anything else you probably own. This quality is for people who like soft clothing and enjoy being comfortable (so, everyone). The hand feel is very soft to the touch; your hand will glide along the surface and you'll get that warm fuzzy feeling inside. This is oftentimes a more durable material that softens over time like a fine wine.

Cotton Cashmere
Cotton Cashmere
This is an Extra Long Staple (ELS) cotton, which means it’s extra soft on your skin. It’s strength and firmness is absorbent and resistant to most stains. It’s delicately blended with cashmere to create a nano blend that is lighter and breathable. This turns your everyday cotton garments into luxury!
90% Merino Wool 10% Cashmere
90% Merino Wool 10% Cashmere
The process begins with combing Mongolian goats and shearing Merino sheep. After the fibers are collected, they are expertly spun together. This superior blend will keep you warm, while still being gentle on your skin. The wool fibers create an odor resistance barrier and retain heat.
Wool Nylon Hybrid
Wool Nylon Hybrid
We work with an innovative factory that has created MIPAN Regen, a functional nylon made from recycling pre-consumer waste. This process saves energy and reduces greenhouse gases. While other brands use synthetic materials to make jackets warmer, we go the extra mile to fill our finest Merino wool with 100% cotton to keep you feeling warmer, softer and happier than ever.

Silky Soft

Feels like it sounds. This quality is for people who value both extreme softeness but like fabrics that are a bit lighter weight and more breathable. The hand feel is remarkable with a silky smooth finish. These products are marked by their airy, cloud-like appeal; they are fluffy and float on the body.

Silk Cashmere
Silk Cashmere
Our silk is made from the silkworm’s leftover cocoon. The worm spins the cocoon and leaves behind about a kilometer of silk filament, which we blend with our Mongolian cashmere. We take the extra step to partner with mills that don't feed silkworms leaves treated with pesticides, ensuring that our silk is 100% organic when making this luxury fabric!
100% Silk
100% Silk
We've partnered with experts in sustainable sericulture. In other words, we work with silkworm farmers who let nature take the lead in maintaining the farm's ecosystem. They invest in regenerative agriculture technology and plant mulberry trees to feed the silkworms. From silk reeling to color dyeing, our supplier is always looking for ways to eliminate chemicals and reduce wastage. To prove this, their facility received a Think Green Initiative Achievement Award from Intertek. You're getting top notch silk.

Heavenly Soft

You'll get that instantly recognizable, buttery smooth hand feel when you glide your hand across its surface. You can identify the quality on sight by the soft "halo" hovering above the surface of these materials. The person who wear this will often be spotted rubbing themselves without thinking, rebuffing random compliments and receiving lingering, unasked-for pats on the back or shoulder.

100% Mongolian Cashmere
100% Mongolian Cashmere
After hand brushing our goats in Mongolia, we collect the raw cashmere fibers. We take these fibers and delicately spin them together, creating a strong yarn. Once this yarn is woven together, the result is an extremely soft, sustainably made, Naadam cashmere gloves.
Modal
Modal
Imagine a material so soft you barely know it's there. Introducing the effortlessly smooth, modal. Modal production starts with wood that gets turned into pulp. High-tech machinery processes this pulp into fiber then spins it into super soft fabric. Our modal fiber comes from Lenzing, who adheres to FSC and PEFC standards that certify sustainable forestry operations. They never source wood from primeval forests, the Amazon region, or the endangered rainforests. We use a small amount of spandex to give this material some added stretch.

Softest Ever

WARNING: The Softest Stuff Ever is, in fact, the softest sh*t ever. We used a proprietary yarn-spinning process where we inject air to fluff up our yarns, making knit products softer than ever before. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and imagine cuddling with a baby goat. Okay, open your eyes. That's what this is like. Boom.

100% Brushed Cashmere
100% Brushed Cashmere
Brushed cashmere comes from herders who hand brush our goats in Mongolia. Once the goat hair is spun into yarn, we loosen the stitching by using our eco friendly wash formula. This process makes a luxuriously soft and lightweight garment you never want to take off.
